*Designer Discovery* - Asher Levine

This one comes from my Lady Gaga obsession. Asher Levine is a New York City based designer, supposedly "up and coming" but don't quote me on that. He's an edgy kid with a new fall/winter 2010 line that looks something like a Rodarte and Rick Owens love child. He went to Pace, worked in fashion advertising, and took a stab at designing with results that will give you whiplash. His website bio paints his history a little more colorfully, but you can check that out for yourself.

Check out some photos of his collection that will hit stores this fall, and start the nail biting.
Remember that infamous Lady Gaga photo of her flicking off the paparazzi at a hotdog stand in nothing but this jacket? Mr. Levine is responsible for that. Apparently, this bespoke jacket was made for her and is not, and will not be, available to the less audacious public like us. Here, the one-of-a-kind jacket is her only wardrobe in a recent Rolling Stone issue, June of this year, I believe.

This is an amazing leather jacket that's part of his fall collection and, if you can get past the crocodile skivvies, that deserve a closer look as well, the detailed photos are delicious.

The animal sacrificed for this vest is unbeknownst to me, but what a way for it to go.

Who can resist a moth-eaten shirt? Not groundbreaking, but desirable none the less.

This one is taken by Gaga's stylist, Niccola Formachetti backstage at the Today show earlier this week. The jacket is, again, custom I believe, and this photo is from Niccola's Facebook.

No word on a women's line, although I should calm down considering his first collection isn't even in stores yet. It will be available at Oak on Bond Street this fall, and online via Oak and Levine's website. I'm not sure if I'll pick up anything, but I'll make a note to stop by Oak this fall and stroke the garments wantonly.

*Designer Discovery* (again, sort of) ~ Poppy

So, again, this is just an extension of an already widely successful designer, but it's fresh enough that it deserves its own "discovery." Poppy is the new collection by the middle school target brand Coach, however it's caught my attention due to it's cutesy and bright aesthetic, with just enough immaturity to keep it from going stale. When I first saw it, I thought back to my middle school days and how I fawned over coach shoes and scarves (I never was and still am not a bag person). Back then, circa five years ago, those items cost almost a hundred dollars! *Gasp* Granted, now I only walk into one in search of some form of nostalgia, I was pleasantly surprised when this attractive new line, Poppy, graced Coach's umbrella name. So, fear the juvenility tied with Coach no longer, because Poppy, outfited with stunning shoes, bags, and this jacket to DIE for, will pull you from your monotonous, grown-up blacks and draw you into a wonderful coexistence of color and class. Let's check it out.

Before we begin, all of the Poppy items are available at the Coach website. The website is quite impressive, although mildly annoying with all the rollover pop ups. However, it's a happy place to shop and much like it's mother label, the prices rarely break four hundred, which in this current state, is a welcomed attribute.

Let's begin with the shoes, shall we?

These patent flats are just darling and come in two other colors as well, however these are the one's I'd choose. At $158.00, I think Blair Waldorf would approve.

These I just LOVE! Can you visualize this brightening up a pair of skinny jeans or a cute solid dress? For $138.00, I can. These also come in three other slightly less cool prints/colors.

Like I said, bag's fail to seduce me unlike the ill fate of so many others, however this bag is so bumblebee-summer-cute, I had to spotlight it. This one goes for $298.00, so if it speaks to you, it's not an entirely gasp-worthy bank breaker, but I'm not THAT into it.

I usually adore trash-tastic from afar, but I love my metallics. This bag, from it's shape to the sequins to the purple lining, is too beautiful to just look. It's everything the Hannah Montana inside of me wants to be, and I'm willing to embrace it. But buy it? For $398.00, probably not.

Last, but most certainly not least, this gorgeous jacket is what drew me to the Poppy line to begin with. Hiding within the pages of Instyle, it was one of the spotlights of their article featuring Poppy, and I fell in love. I have always sought after Coach jackets, nearly swindling my parents into getting me one of my own; a feat for which I reluctantly accepted defeat. However this one is just so divine I will for sure purchase this. But at another $398.00, it will probably be for my fall wardrobe.

On a side note and speaking of extension collections, Juicy Couture's "Bird" collection, which is an edgier version of their candy colored confections that I love, will finally be hitting stores at a specified date. Elle.com claims that at a number of mentioned retailers, expect to empty your pockets mid July. The line is rarely pictured other than the infamous feathered cape thing in the article, but I found a PDF from JuicyCouture.com herself of a Harper's Bazzar article featuring the new-ish brand. For your viewing pleasure, and the lovely military jacket on the left is mine if I ever lay my eyes on it.

The New Skull and Bones

Tom Binns is not new on the fashion front by any means. He's been designing since roughly before I was born, and I'm little shy of two decades old. Because both the world and I have known about him for quite some time, he's not a *Designer Discovery* today, however I've never talked about him. Mr. Binns is a beacon of edginess and originality often squashed between couture gowns and Louboutin stilettos. For a guy who's managed to stay unparalleled and forever rebellious (and he rubs elbows with Vivienne Westwood, I mean come on), he deserves at least two cents on my humble behalf. And, I had a Binns binge today and virtually raped his website all afternoon. But we can say this post is because of the former.

Oh, and he designs jewelry.

Tom Binns is kind of like the old man next door who's secretly a serial killer, except he kills with fashion. His jewelry is iconic to say the least. He's the Punk Peter Pan; he never grew out of it. His designs can range from gaudy and flashy gems to obscure and modern but what he's most known for is his punk pieces.

Pieces like these...

This piece was featured in bronze and copper at Barneys for a little while.

Bits like that, that are wild and random, but carefully selected at the same time. I mean a railroad spike? Come on, thats downright cool for lack of a better word. His pieces are like what would happen if you let your lazy, punk rocker of a neighbor into your grandmother's jewelry box. Like this...

It's more highly regarded than hipster, but not quite as filthy as punk. It's almost grown-up-punk, at grown up prices too.

These pieces are not for fashionistas. They cost a pretty penny, enough to the point where few are offered online. The ever faithful net-a-porter.com features a slim sampling, but that's all I could conjure up.

I adore his work, in a nutshell. It's everything I want to be; pearls and class, with a youthful wild twist. He's just a simple irish dude, chilling in LA and yet he embodies the likes of Coco Rocha, Allison Mosshart, and Georgina Sparks.

Anyway, here are some of my favorites. Live vicariously.

Check out his website tombinnsdesign.com if you're down for goggling at what you can't have. Anyway, his Real Deal, Modern Classic, and Classic collections are my favorites. For the high society rebellion, his Tough Chic collection is the one to see.

*Designer Discovery* - Tracy Feith

Ever since I first saw Brittany Snow as Lily Rhodes on Gossip Girl in this outfit, I had something occur in my mind that I thought would never fabricate: an appreciation for the eighties. The entire outfit insnares me, from the leather jacket that seems to be forever en vogue to the hot pink Givenchy heels (god help me with my infatuation with those).

Where to acquire such an ensemble seemed so beyond me I had let go of that dream, but, lo and behold, my most favorite site, Racked.com, has come to my rescue exactly like Chuck came to Blair's last night; without me knowing.

The outfit on the left is designed by Tracy Faith in a collaboration with Target. Target always does the coolest collaborations, their most recent been Thakoon with Michelle Obama as a fan, well not of the Target line, but of Thakoon's original line. Anyways, that means that the clothes are cool, AND at a good cheap price! In honor of such a fabulous discovery, and the fabulous Gossip Girl episode last night, check out the coolest looks from Faith's line that hits stores and online May 17th!!!

This fab outfit is $49.99 for the dress and, hold your breath, $139.99 for the jacket. It is leather, but that makes it the cheapest leather jacket on the market! Cheaper even than the Matthew Williamson H&M one (albeit slightly less cool, but whatever).
This t-shirt is $14.99 and the skirt is $29.99. The skirt is a must!!
Pretty much the same blue dress in white, and only $44.99.

Spotlight on this sweater, its amazing. It's $29.99, *swoon*. The red shirt on the left is $24.99 and the shorts are $26.99. The cute little floral dress on the right, which is pretty stellar in it's own right, is $39.99.
Phew, and that wasn't even all of it.

Everything offered starting Sunday is HERE.

Tracy Feith doesn't have their (thanks fashitarian!) own website... yet. But they apparently have a boutique in NYC. I mean where else, right? When they become more accessible, and possibly consequently less cool, I'll let you know.

*Designer Discovery* - Mulberry

So British fashion has got to be my favorite. No one blows you away like Viv and McQ and Harrods anyone? I mean add the Victoria and Albert Museum's Fashion exhibit and awesomeness that is British Vogue and London is my fashion haven.

So it was no surprise that when I stumbled upon this not so little brand Mulberry I learned it was born and bred across the pond.

They are famous for their bags but their womenswear line? *swoon* Its phenom' and I'm not all mouth and trousers (british for talking bullshit).

The dresses are short with flowy prints and the color palate is divine and the jackets are sweet but edgy leather numbers that even the most catholic school girls can pull off. To top it off, it not only a curate's egg, everything is posh and cute together and apart. Granted, it might not be cheap as chips, but a piece or two is totally worth it.

So I advise you break your duck and buy something british for once. I know, its so out of the way, but there are boutiques in Long Island and Manhattan ripe for the pickings. I'm going off my rocker for this shit. Take a look at some of my favorites. It's the full monty, no lie.

For England!

This boot makes me want to pull a Kiera Knightly and stand, hunched over in the British Countryside with a white dress falling off of me. I find that appealing at least.

Spotlight on the purple leather jacket! Snatch that shit.

This is flawless. I want this. 'Nuff said.

SPOTLIGHT on this wicked adorable jacket.

Even the smallest revival of Chloe circa the 60's gets me all a twitter.

It's like the edgy version of myself I never knew. And she's here to stay.

*Designer Discovery* - Chelsey McLaren

Sea of Shoes, an iconic personal style blog to many, posted some photos of a new outfit she put together spotlighting the color "sea foam." It is one my my personal favorite colors and the outfit looks just marvelous and placid and fresh. So with that on my mind, I stumble upon Chelsey McLaren's spring line from 2008, in particular a stunning sea foam coat that Madame McLaren notes is the color "Marie Antoinette Bleu." *swoon*

Chelsey McLaren's clothes are supposedly almost unattainable due to the astronomical price and especially now with everyone's empty pockets, but they are just stunning. She supposedly only sells her stuff at Yuta Powell's Salon in NYC. Her full story is HERE at The Moment blog for T Magazine (NY Times style mag) and after seeing the collection, its heartbreaking to know she won't be producing more.

Check out the entire collection, and see if you can recognize some of her artwork THIS WAY.
